A BOLT JR. collaborated with METALPON to expedite the production process of commercial furniture, reducing time and material waste.
PROBLEM
METALPON specializes in manufacturing commercial furniture for supermarkets, auto parts stores, pharmacies, among other businesses. The shelf manufacturing process involves cutting custom-sized sheets from a coil and then bending the corners at 90 and 180° angles. The challenge was the slow manual operations of cutting and bending the sheets, which also resulted in significant material waste.
SOLUTION
We studied the processes and designed two customized machines to address these issues. The first machine, the cutting apparatus, aimed to reduce the number of movements made by workers in this process. It simplified the process to a single advance of the guillotine, simultaneously performing the separation cuts of the sheets, holes, and rectangular stamping in the corners. The second machine, the bending apparatus, aimed to simplify the sheet bending process. Previously, one side was bent at a time, requiring 8 movements. The process was streamlined to 2 movements: 4 bends of 90° on the sides and then an additional 90° on two sides, totaling a 180° bend.
As a result, we optimized the manufacturing time, significantly increasing productivity!
